Grim Fandango with Peter McConnell – PA40

Pixelated Audio - Video Game Music podcast and Retro Gaming Grim Fandango with Peter McConnellMaybe once a decade a game comes along that is so charming and so charismatic that you can help but fall in love with every aspect of it…Lucas Arts’ Grim Fandango is such a game. This game has great characters, a great story and engaging (and sometime head scratching) puzzles but one of the best parts of this game, in our opinion, is composer Peter McConnell’s soundtrack. Enjoy the swanky sounds of Grim Fandango with our special guest, composer Peter McConnell.

Hey guys, love the show- I’ve listened to every episode so far! And great choice with Grim Fandango- one of the best games ever that never saw commercial success. If you’re looking for some more obscure but great soundtracks, could I recommend:

UN Squadron/Area 88 (both the arcade and SNES version)
Final Fantasy XI (FF soundtracks get played a lot, but never this one)
    Outlaws (another LucasArts classic)
Radical Dreamers (an SNES text adventure and inspiration for Chrono Cross)
Street Fighter EX + alpha (PS1 fighting game that most have forgotten about)
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (modern chiptunes)

Or, if you feel like an NES episode, how about:
    Rescue Rangers
    Strider
    Super Dodge Ball
    Jackal
    Track And Field II

One last thing, and I say this as a fan of the show- the best episodes you guys did are the ones with the shorter run times- under 90 min. I think a little less talking between tracks keeps the show moving at a good pace!

    Thanks, guys!

Marsh, first off- excellent recommendations and Rescue Rangers is one of my all time favorite NES games so that’s definitely in the pipeline! Track and field II and Radical Dreamers are also ones I’d love to do but all the others are great topics.

I feel ya on the shorter episodes. Those are my favorites to do but we try to balance based on the game and info we want to share. Thanks for the feedback and supporting the show and if you have a sec leave a review on iTunes too!
